Stockton's Award Winning Scheme Supports 1000 Residents
Since February 2003, the Safer Stockton Partnerships inititative 'Safe at Home' has lent a friendly hand and warm-hearted support to a thousand vulnerable residents across the borough.
The 'Safe at Home' scheme, ran by Stockton Council and partners Cleveland Police and Stockton Fire Service, provides free assistance and advice to our vulnerable and elderly residents who have been a repeat victim of crime and anti social behaviour within the Stockton Borough.
The scheme is based upon a referral service where the council's Community Safety Team along with the Cleveland Police work closely with support services such as Victim Support, Harbour and Tri-Star homes to correctly identify those who are in need of help.
Daniel Steer from the Community Safety Team that runs the scheme explains; "It's a real achievement for us to be able to say we have helped a thousand residents in Stockton, although Stockton stll remains the safest place to live in the Tees valley, residents can feel assured that, with the combined efforts of the council, police and fire service, we are doing our best to help those residents in need."
Satisfaction surveys are sent to our residents who have received help, in order to evaluate and build upon the scheme. One resident exclaimed "I feel alot safer. My daughter and I could never thank the team and work men enough. Stockton Council and Cleveland Police have made our lives alot safer." Another resident explained the help has not only made her feel safer but more importantly safer in her own home.
Daniel has been awared a Stockton on Tees Customer Service commendation for 2010. This award was for his dedicated approach in helping our residents during the icy winter months, delivering heartly Christmas hampers with a smile.
