Policy Officer
Policy Officers need strong policy, communication and people skills, good project management abilities and to have a strong problem-solving focus. They will need to work well with a wide range of individuals within any partnership, assisting with the interpretation and practical implementation of national policies at a local level.
Main Purpose of Job
- To contribute to the development, negotiation and implementation of community safety policies that support ongoing service improvement.
- To assist with the preparation of key strategic plans and other partnership documents.
- To contribute to the performance assessment or monitoring of services.
Key Duties
- To maintain effective knowledge of policy, legislative and research developments within central and local government and across key partner agencies, interpreting central government guidance and publications for the local context as required.
- To prepare written reports, briefings, policies, minutes and procedures as required.
- To drive the research, development and negotiation of options and implementation of community safety policy.
- To provide comprehensive planning/support for statutory and partnership groups and boards.
- To support or lead the development of service plans or reviews in accordance with the strategic objectives set out in the Directorate’s priorities.
- To identify the present and future needs of services users in Lewisham in own area of responsibility.
- To initiate and take responsibility for projects and other pieces of work.
